Oh, won’t you quiz with me, ‘Cause you’re all I need

Charles C

Emotional times at the quiz last night as a tie-breaker for the bottle of wine saw “Tim Timony” just miss out to “Hope Never Leaves Him”, with the former excellent on films and the latter superb on chemical elements. Still, “Tim Timony” earned the consolation Smarties and “Hope Never Leaves Him” shared a glass of wine with me so we all got something. Along the way we learned Alan Shearer is still the Premier League’s top scorer of all time, Cardi B used to drug and rob men, and Sir Michael Palin has crossed every line of longitude and latitude. “Alex’s Dad” came up trumps on Russian history, finishing just shy of “Fisherman’s Friends”, (reverting back to their usual name - good to see) who were simply brilliant on tube stations. Just ahead of them, “Charles’ Sucks! (Work Face)”, who knew that pogonophobia is a fear of beards.

On the podium, “The Bargain Punters” were great on everything from celebrity identification to yo-yo tricks. Earning silver, “Pass The Duchy” got two triples (3 out of 3 on tube stations AND Sam Smith lyrics), putting in a fine performance. At the end of it all, though, even knowing the Australian grunge band ‘Silverchair’, Bryony led her eponymous “Bryony Bunch” to quiz victory, winning the £40 bar tab. “Pass The Duchy” won through to the jackpot (knowing that Picasso died in 1973) but didn’t beat the envelopes. These nights never seem to go to plan. £121 up for grabs next week. This is love, it’s clear to see, so, darling, quiz with me. #onlytheduchyarmshastheanswer
